A Conversation with Ray Spaxman
Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 7pm to 9:30pm
Heritage Vancouver welcomes Ray Spaxman to our March 20th, 7 pm meeting at the Vancouver Museum. Ray Spaxman, former Director of Planning with the City of Vancouver, was there at the start of the city’s heritage programs in 1973 and oversaw the development of emerging policies until 1989. Think City Forum on the Future of Vancouver's Public Schools

Mark your calendar for Sunday, April 6, 9-4:30 to attend a Think City Forum on the Future of Vancouver’s Public Schools. Many of our Heritage Schools, on Heritage Vancouver’s 2008 Top Ten Endangered List, are threatened with demolition. For more information, www.thinkcity.ca


Opportunities to Contribute to Heritage Preservation

Jericho Wharf

The Vancouver Park Board is proposing a variety of options regarding the future of the Jericho Wharf on Heritage Vancouver’s 2003 Top Ten Endangered List. We invite you to visit the Park Board website, view the options and fill out the questionnaire (link).

Japan Town
The city is conducting a review of Japan Town, on Heritage Vancouver’s 2007 Top Ten Endangered List. The City is seeking input - stories, information, etc. - from people who have lived in, worked in, or experienced the Powell Street neighbourhood. Pantages Theatre (1907)
The city will be reviewing a proposal to restore the historic Pantages Theatre on Hastings St. on Heritage Vancouver’s 2001 Top Ten Endangered List. We invite you to write a letter to city council in support of this initiative. View Heritage Vancouver’s letter of support here (PDF).


Opportunities to Contribute to Heritage Vancouver

Heritage Vancouver is rapidly growing and we have many opportunities for you to get actively involved in supporting many of our new initiatives. The following are just a few of the ways for you to get involved.

Research: We are looking for people who are interested in doing research on heritage buildings and neighbourhoods, locating historic photos and newspaper articles and interviewing people connected with sites and neighbourhoods

Public Programs: We are looking for people who are interested in planning and implementing public programs and in welcoming our guests to events

Writing: We are looking for people who are interested in writing articles for our newsletter, in writing position papers and in writing letters

Administration: We are looking for people who are interested in doing a full range of office work.
