Heritage Talks:
The Future of VanDusen Education Centre (1976)
Creating a future for our heritage as a community

Monday, February 25, 2013 | 7:00pm to 9:00pm

TICKETS: Admission is FREE, but pre-registration is required
LOCATION: Arts & Culture Alliance; #100-938 Howe St. (street level entrance)

It has come to Heritage Vancouver's attention that the Education Centre (1976) at VanDusen Botanical Garden is in danger of demolition or abandonment.

Known originally as MacMillan-Bloedel Place "A Walk In The Forest", it is a unique, dramatic example of modernist architecture by architect Paul Merrick, working then as chief designer for Thompson, Berwick & Pratt.

This "forgotten jewel" is not threatened by significant maintenance issues or lack of viable use. Instead it is threatened by a policy that requires the removal of a building from the Park Board inventory once a new building is contructed.

Heritage Vancouver welcomes guest speakers Roy Forster, the first Garden Director at VanDusen, Henry Hawthorn, Past President VBGA, and historian Michael Kluckner to an evening of meaningful conversation where we discuss ideas about preserving this important heritage building.

Following a short presentation, we invite you to ask questions and share your ideas about the future of the VanDusen Education Centre.

Come join the conversation!
