Heritage Vancouver Encourages you to support our heritage conservation initiatives by attending "An Evening of Celebration" hosted by Heritage Vancouver and Simon Fraser University at the Segal Graduate School of Business on January 19th. This remarkable Temple Bank was originally built for the Merchant's Bank in 1915-16 (architects Somervell & Putnam) then more than doubled in size for the Bank of Montreal in 1924-25 (architect Kenneth G. Rea).

The award-winning adaptive re-use of this former bank, by Merrick Architecture, restored the exterior and conserved many significant interior features including the highly ornate, cast plaster coffered ceiling. Don't miss this unique opportunity to go behind the scenes with the project architects Paul Merrick and Mitch Sakumoto, and heritage consultant Donald Luxton, and discover the ideas that shaped this splendid restoration and how the experts met the challenges of such a complex project.

Photo of the PenthouseJoin Heritage Vancouver for an evening of nostalgia and old time burlesque at Vancouver's Exotic Night Club, the Penthouse (1947). Penthouse owner Danny Filippone takes you on his famous “behind the scenes” tour of his historic family business and shares his memories with you in his own video presentation. Hear tales of the club’s hey days and visit the Steak Loft Dining Lounge and the VIP room where Danny’s uncle Joe Filippone entertained high profile guests such as Frank Sinatra. Originally the Penthouse attracted celebrities and stars from around the world and acts like Sammy Davis Jr., Nat King Cole, the Mills Brothers and Harry Belafonte were regulars on the Penthouse stage. Many stars’ photographs still grace the walls as a reminder of the club’s rich history.

And… Burlesque is Back! Two dancers from “Kitty Nights” will treat you to New York style burlesque onstage at the Penthouse. Kitty Nights has a very distinct quality of clever innocence mixed with good clean naughtiness; a carnival-like atmosphere where everyone's having a good time. They encourage performance-art styled burlesque while simultaneously saluting the delicious early years of classic strip-tease, leaving the audience fully satiated in mind, body and spirit! If you dare, stay on and enjoy the exotic dancers.

Plan to make an evening of it with a tour, dinner, drinks and a burlesque performance.
